In partnership with Knapp Logistics & Automation, Automated Pharmacy Integration, a subsidiary of American Conveyor Group, Inc., is in the final stages of completing a multi-million dollar mail order automated prescription fulfillment project for the United States government. This project involves two distinct processes that are designed to interact with each other on an "as needed" basis.
The first process is designed to accumulate, both manually and automatically, multiple patient prescriptions at a rate of 2600 totes of medication an hour. This process utilizes unique automatic picking equipment that is programmed to select the correct physician prescribed medication from a supply source. Once the proper medication has been selected, it is conveyed with specialty belt conveyor through multiple processes, including labeling, prescription verification, packaging and mailing.
The second process utilizes a newly developed Automated Tablet Counter that is capable of dispensing the exact quantity of any shape or size "tablet" into a prescription vial at the rate of 4500 prescriptions an hour. Using a specially designed table top conveyor and a highly sophisticated computer controlled bar coding and tracking system, prescriptions are processed through stages that include a labeling station, the unique Automated Tablet Counter, prescription verification, packaging and mailing.
This "state of the art" mail order prescription fulfillment system processes more prescriptions than any other system in the world. The primary benefit of these automated mail order prescription fulfillment systems is the reduced cost associated with processing medical prescriptions with automated equipment and the reduced liability associated with the errors that occur when they are filled manually.
